This week we had a student from a local school complete work experience with us, as part of their learning they have shared a summary of their week.
My name’s Arisha and I currently go to Carr Manor Community School. In school I really look forward to my chemistry lessons, especially because of the experiments with the different chemicals and getting to work alongside my classmates. I love to challenge myself, so maths gives me the chance to tackle difficult problems. In my spare time I love to draw sketches and sceneries – art is my favourite thing to do as a hobby, as well as playing with my cat, Maggie!
Why I chose Blueberry for my work experience
I chose to do work experience in a marketing agency because I was curious about what they do. I wanted to try something new and broaden my knowledge of the different careers I could potentially do in the future. My brother completed his work experience last year at Blueberry and talked about how much he enjoyed it, so I got in touch with them to do mine at Blueberry as well.
What have I done during my work experience?
I learnt something new every day whilst at Blueberry. I learnt about excel and how to use it which improved my computer skills. I found it a bit difficult at the start, but the team were always there to help me grasp any elements I did not fully understand, I think I have got the hang of it now! I have also got involved with the content marketing, not only creating this blog but also playing a role in developing a content marketing strategy around National Apprenticeship Week. This also gave me an insight into branding, social media and advertising which I found really fun as I love seeing how ideas come to life!
What I have learnt over the week
This week have taught me a lot. I learnt practical skills which are useful for working in an office like spread sheets, excel and word. As well as understanding the different channels which marketers use to communicate with their audience like emails, content marketing such as blogs, telemarketing and social media. The skills that I developed during this week I feel I can benefit from in the future. One of my favourite tasks was learning about graphic design, something which suited my passion for all things art and I would definitely love to learn more about this in the future!
The thing I will take away from the most this week was meeting new people who really helped me improve on the skills I feel I needed to work on. Little things like talking to people and being more confident. I am now definitely more comfortable with approaching people for help and guidance. I was constantly encouraged to ask questions and I even delivered a presentation at the end of the week! I have not only got a glimpse into what it’s like working at a marketing agency but have also become more confident in myself!
If as a business, you want to get involved in directly assisting school students in gaining experience of working life then I would highly recommend the Enterprise Advisors Network.
